Painting en Plein Air
As part of our art & culture programs, this is the third year that Belas Artes sponsors
and supports plein air art as a way to advance local art, to reinforce the
connection of artists and the community, and to promote and inspire people in
the appreciation of art.
We invite you to join us and to be a juror helping us to select the painting that
will receive the “Friends of belas Artes” award.
The Best of the Show prize award will be juried by the renown plein air artist Billyo O' Donnell and
the artist and art consultant Susan Barrett.
"en plein air" is a French phrase that translates "in the open air."
This term is used to describe paintings that have been created chiefly outdoors,
rather than in studio. Painting from life is a pursuit unlike any other painting technique.
It challenges artists to concentrate every sensory nerve on the information in front
of them. They absorb it all, from sight to sound, from temperature to atmosphere,
and then channel those feelings and mental impressions from head to hand
recreating the vision in paints on paper or canvas.
Belas Artes is located at 1854 Russell Blvd, St. Louis MO 63104 - 314-772-2787
This event is made possible with the support of the Regional Arts Commision and sponorship of
